EnFocus Zooms In On Men Become Gods
By: Cody Powell
Men Become Gods is the second EP in a trilogy from the band Dead Earth Politics and contains four powerful and brutal tracks. “Casting Stones” gets it off to a great start with it’s hard hitting drums, spectacularly composed bass and guitar riffs and of course Devon Brown’s unmistakable vocal style. The second song is the title track to the EP and rightfully so, as it builds the intensity of the album and invokes a feeling of power to us mere mortals. Next up is “Ice and Fire” and as soon as I heard the intro I knew this was going to be my favorite on the album. From the back and forth between the guitars to the harmonizing in the vocal tracks, I was completely blown away. The fourth and final song entitled “Crimson Dichotomy” begins slower than the rest, but has a beautiful build up to some heavy and very technical guitar play.
In an overall view of the album the arrangement of the songs is perfect, the mix down is on point and the songwriting is brilliant. It is a must have in any metal fan’s collection. This album brought imagery into my head of a wasteland ruled by few. There is a reason these guys won the best metal band award at the Austin Music Awards. That reason is with these guys there are no gimmicks needed to draw you in and take you to another world. The music and their talent alone is all it takes. They are through and through real and raw metal! I recommend you keep your eyes and ears peeled for the third installment of the trilogy coming in Summer 2016.
