RavenEye at the Mohawk - Austin, TX
You have to love (not really) the Texas heat. 10:00 pm at night and it's finally dropped down to a chilly 100 degrees. I'm standing on the stairs next to the stage at the Mohawk talking with RavenEye guitarist/singer Oli Brown. He's telling me of the great time they've had on the US tour and wondering if they just stepped into a freak occurrence of heat having just gotten here. No, it’s just Texas.

On this Wednesday night, the Texas heat was absolutely no competition for the heat brought to the stage from a fantastic performance by England's RavenEye. If you're not familiar with them you should be. RavenEye is a three-piece hard rocking band from Milton Keynes, England. Led by Oli Brown along with bassist Aaron Spiers and drummer Adam Breeze, RavenEye is carrying forward and building on the tradition of the great English hard rock bands that have fused the blues with passion and fire to create pure, raw musical dynamite.
They started the night out with Get It Started and from the first note, it was on! Oli and Aaron owned the stage, performing with a vengeance. Powered by Adam's thundering drums they ripped through a set that never let up. Highlights of the night included their performance of Nobodies Soul where Oli shed his guitar to put on the vocal performance of the night. So, you're asking, how does the three piece band get away with guitar player not playing guitar, enter Aaron Spiers. Covering both parts on his bass he shredded his way through the song in impressive fashion. Back on guitar Oli showed he can hang with the best, displaying great style leading into Oh My Love.

These guys are amazingly tight and put on an absolutely fantastic show. Great performers on stage, they had the crowd following their every move, especially when that move was Oli riding on top of Aaron's shoulders through the crowd tearing it up on guitar during Breaking Out. This is Rock and Roll at its best! If you haven't seen RavenEye, check their website for dates and hope they tour somewhere close to you. In the meantime, get a copy of their debut album Nova and turn it up loud.
